One Easy Way to Boost Your Fertility

If you have been struggling with trying to conceive (TTC) there are several ideas you may want to start exploring while on your path to parenthood. While it’s normal for conception to take longer if a couple is stressed out or if they are older (Advanced Maternal Age is typically diagnosed in Western fertility clinics as women who are over the age of 35), a few things may be hindering the process that can be easily reversed.

One of the easiest (and cheapest) things to monitor is movement. While most Southern Californians are not exercise ignorant and have the great weather to get out there and move every day, most of us are stuck at a desk or in a car more than we’d like to be, and this decreases the blood flow to the reproductive system. Movement, and having a good balance of exercise in your life, is incredibly important when it comes to fertility. When our bodies stagnate, blood flow stagnates and there is less of a chance to get nutrients in the blood to the places where it needs to be, like your uterine lining and the eggs in your ovaries.

Balance is the key!

Exercise also helps to balance hormones, which in some cases are arguably the most important thing that need to be in balance while TTC. Getting out there and doing something you enjoy, whether it’s a sport, hiking, yoga or gardening, will help to reduce stress as well, which is often overlooked as it’s the invisible disease that decreases reproductive function. Likewise, if you are training for a marathon or are a triathlete, this may be too much movement. Research has shown that in some cases, athletes and women who exercise and train for hours a day may have a decrease in ovulatory function.

Balance is they key. You likely already have an idea of where you fall in this category, but if you are confused or you want more feedback about a customized plan, you should consult with your doctor or health care provider who specializes in fertility. Feel free to call us anytime to ask a question, schedule a consultation or make an appointment! We are always happy to help and look forward to helping you on your path to parenthood.
